Pakistan’s President Zardari Arrives in China for 10-Day Tour
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in China on Friday for a pivotal 10-day tour aimed at strengthening ties with the world’s second-largest economy.
The first leg of Zardari’s trip is Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in southwestern China, his Pakistan People’s Party announced.
Upon arrival, Zardari was welcomed by China’s Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, Sichuan Vice Governor Huang Ruixue, Pakistan’s Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong.
During his visit, Zardari will engage with senior Chinese officials to deepen Islamabad-Beijing relations, focusing heavily on advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This $64 billion infrastructure initiative links China’s Xinjiang province with Pakistan’s Gwadar port in Balochistan.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1950, both nations have described their bond as an “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.”
Zardari’s agenda will also include discussions on broadening this partnership.
Following Chengdu, the president plans to visit Shanghai and Xinjiang.
China is now Pakistan’s largest arms supplier, and bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded $23 billion in 2024.
