Israel Proposes Gaza Displacement Strategy
This suggested course of action is expected to become a central topic of discussion during US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s upcoming trip to Israel.
According to the broadcaster, Rubio will hold meetings with senior Israeli figures, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to deliberate on the "voluntary relocation" from Gaza.
Rubio’s visit is planned for early next week, during which he is also expected to attend the unveiling of a new tunnel in East Jerusalem’s Silwan district.
The broadcaster stated that the “relocation plan is an initiative of US President Donald Trump, which received public support from Netanyahu.”
Nevertheless, Israeli authorities remain doubtful about how realistic the plan is, the report noted.
The proposal, submitted by security forces on Thursday, would “allow Gaza residents to leave the Strip by air and sea starting in October.”
Talks are “ongoing, but no formal agreement has been reached” with various countries to accept Palestinian individuals leaving Gaza, the report added.
Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a prominent backer of the proposal, remarked in a government session: “There is no point in investing large amounts of money if Gaza residents return within a year. If there is no significant change in Gaza, this is unnecessary.”
