Pope states achieving peace is “the duty of all political leaders”
(MENAFN) Pope Leo XIV on Tuesday urged an end to conflicts around the world, emphasizing that fostering peace is “the duty of all political leaders,” according to reports.
Speaking at the conclusion of an interfaith forum in Rome, the pontiff remarked, “Conflicts exist wherever there is life, but we can neither manage nor resolve them through war.” He called on political leaders to initiate “a genuine and lasting period of reconciliation,” adding: “Let the wars end now.”
“The world is thirsting for peace,” the Pope said, cautioning that humanity must not “grow accustomed to living with war.” He described ending conflicts as “an unpostponable duty before God,” stressing that peace should be “the foremost priority of all politics.”
The three-day gathering, organized by the Catholic Community of Sant’Egidio under the theme “Have Courage for Peace,” included representatives from multiple faiths and concluded with a moment of silence to honor victims of war and violence.
