China Maintains Dialogue with US Regarding Trump’s Upcoming Trip

(MENAFN) China confirms on Wednesday that it continues to coordinate with US officials regarding a planned visit by President Donald Trump.

“Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance for China-US relations,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian tells reporters in Beijing. He adds that the two nations "will remain in communication regarding President Trump’s visit to China,” without offering further specifics.

Trump, speaking Tuesday at the White House, says he is “resetting” the trip and anticipates it will occur “in about five weeks.” “We’re working with China,” he adds, noting his expectation to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. “He looks forward to seeing me, I think,” Trump remarks, describing economic relations between the countries as “very good.”

Earlier, Trump comments on the timing of his China trip, stating: “I'd love to, but because of the war, I want to be here. I have to be here, I feel.” The White House had previously scheduled a three-day visit to China starting March 31. The delay comes as tensions and armed conflict persist in the Middle East.
