Lavrov, Iran’s Araghchi hold discussions
The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that during the phone call, Lavrov also briefed Araghchi on the delivery of a new batch of humanitarian aid to Tehran. This shipment underscores Russia’s ongoing support amid the conflict.
Since February 28, the United States and Israel have carried out strikes in Iran, killing over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. These attacks have further destabilized the region and raised international concerns.
Iran has responded with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces. These retaliatory attacks have caused casualties, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted global markets and air travel.
Lavrov and Araghchi also discussed ways to steer the conflict toward a political and diplomatic resolution. They emphasized the importance of following international law and respecting the legitimate interests of all countries in the region, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry statement.
Earlier, Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry reported sending 313 tons of medical supplies under the direction of President Vladimir Putin. “This is the second large consignment of medical supplies,” the statement noted, highlighting Russia’s humanitarian contributions.
