NASA’s Artemis II Begins First Crewed Moon Mission in Half Century
Following a short delay caused by technical issues, the rocket carrying NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
During their ten-day voyage, the crew will orbit the Moon and return to Earth aboard an Orion capsule. This mission represents the first human journey beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972.
Orion is scheduled to orbit the Moon on April 6. The astronauts are set to travel farther from Earth than any humans in history, surpassing the previous record of 400,171 km (248,655 miles) established by Apollo 13.
