US Military Presents Trump with Plan to Recover Buried Uranium in Iran
Trump requested the proposal, signaling his interest in permanently neutralizing Iran’s nuclear potential, as stated by reports.
The operation would involve airlifting potentially thousands of troops along with heavy excavation equipment into Iran and could take several weeks to execute, former defense officials said. Teams would need to first strike Iranian defenses and establish a secure beachhead. This might involve a parachute assault by the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and Rangers to secure territory and construct an airstrip for supplies, according to sources familiar with the plan.
One former operator described the operation as "slow, meticulous and can be an extremely deadly process."
The target consists of uranium enriched to 60%, below weapons-grade levels, much of which lies beneath nuclear facilities that were previously struck during a US operation last June.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has confirmed that the material remains "under the rubble" with no immediate plans for retrieval.
Reports indicate that the Trump administration is considering options to secure or extract the stockpile, with discussions focusing on deploying the elite Joint Special Operations Command.
When asked whether recovering the uranium would be necessary to declare victory, Trump was noncommittal, noting that even Iran had been unable to access the material prior to the conflict.
