Qassem Reiterates Firm Opposition to Direct Lebanon–Israel Talks
In a statement, Qassem emphasized that his group maintains a “categorical rejection” of direct talks with Israel. He further reaffirmed that Hezbollah will persist in what he described as its “defensive resistance” and will not give up its weapons.
He also condemned the recent holding of two rounds of direct discussions between Lebanon and Israel for the first time in 43 years, which reportedly took place in Washington in recent days under US sponsorship.
“In this atmosphere of sacrifice and dignity and the defeat of the enemy, the (Lebanese) authority rushed into a humiliating and unnecessary free concession, whose only justification is submission,” Qassem claimed.
He added that “The entry point and solution is to achieve five points before anything else,” explaining his framework for addressing the situation.
He then specified these conditions as “stopping the aggression on land, sea and air, Israel’s withdrawal from occupied territories, the release of detainees, the return of residents to all their villages and towns, and reconstruction.”
Qassem concluded by stating, “This authority cannot continue while it gives up Lebanon’s rights, concedes land and confronts its resistant people.”
